The reason for the repeal of COOL was that our northern and southern neighbors complained that the labeling was hurting their exports of beef and pork to the US. Not so much at the consumer level but at the packing houses. The large packers didn't want to buy foreign livestock because they didn't want the cost and burden of separating the Canadian animals from domestic animals. So the Canadians and Mexicans were not making as much money selling livestock into US markets.
This past Wednesday, Congress voted to repeal the Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) requirement for imported meat. This was used to identify where the animals were born, raised, and slaughtered. The meat from those animals was then labeled with the country of origin label.

I stood in the kitchen anxiously watching the clock. "That's five minutes. How much longer should we wait?" I asked. Kristy sat by our daughter, Lacie, as she lay on the couch. "The doctors said don't let it go on for more than ten minutes" she said. Only a short time earlier she was playing with her dolls like any other little girl. Now, she was in the middle of an epileptic seizure. Her hands were clammy and clinched, her eyes were twitching, her speech was slurred, she might lose control of her bladder and even vomit.
That day's seizure was more intense than normal. They usually only last a few minutes. That one needed extra care. The seizures are not as bad as they once were. There was a time that she would have them multiple times a week. Now they are confined to just a couple times a month or when something stresses her. Recently, my father had knee surgery. She worried so much that for several days she had seizures. Every year people make a resolution to improve their health in the new year. It could be to lose weight, lower their blood pressure, cholesterol, or control their diabetes. All of these are great things to take into consideration and definitely worthy of resolution to fix them. Most New Year's resolutions are never achieved, though. Not because we don't want them but we never make a plan to attain them. I also have health goals this year and have already taken action to see them through. I have a date I want to see improvement by and have plan to get there. So, how do you better your health this year? Here is how. Pick a dietary plan and stick to it. Most of us live very busy lives. That busyness makes it hard to eat right unless we have made a commitment to eat better and have a plan to follow. Here are three dietary plans you can follow and that I highly recommend.
Following any of the diets above will greatly increase the vitamins and minerals in your diet. Real food doesn't load you up with sugar and cause you to crash mid day. Real food doesn't leave you hungry within an hour of eating. Real food promotes better health. Do you want to better your health this year? Then put the Moon-pie down and start eating real food.
